10 Worst WWE Smackdown Main Events Ever

5. Triple H Vs. Vince McMahon - September 16, 1999

The fourth episode of SmackDown ended with Vince McMahon standing tall (sort of) as the WWE Champion. Sure, it wasn't quite Vince Russo or David Arquette as WCW Champion, but having the boss win the title was an eye-rolling booking decision that only hindered the product. It also provided a rocky early episode for the brand new SmackDown to try and get over.

The match itself is five minutes of Triple H beating the tar out of Vince McMahon before Stone Cold Steve Austin comes down to the ring and delivers a stunner to the champ, dragging Vince on top and forcing Shane McMahon to count the pin. Yes, the crowd was hot for it all, but this was 1999; crowds were hot for everything.

He may be the greatest heel in the history of professional wrestling, but Vince McMahon should never have been anywhere near the world title. It devalued the title and dragged the credibility of the show's top tier down, ending this early SmackDown on a depressingly frustrating note, a harbinger for things to come if ever there was one.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
