10 Worst WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever
8. 1994
Oddly enough, this next entry featured one of the only
matches in WWE history to be awarded a five-star rating, proving that even some
of the worst of SummerSlam’s offerings were peppered with the occasional
highlight.
Bret Hart versus his brother Owen is the particular match in question, contested for the WWE Title in what was probably the best cage match you’re ever likely to see. Unfortunately, though (and perhaps understandably) the rest of the card struggled to come close to matching it.
The Tag Team opener pitting Samu and Fatu against Irwin R. Shyster and Bam Bam Bigelow ended in rather screwy fashion, while there was a poorly executed heel turn for Tatanka, and a rap vs. country battle between Jeff Jarrett and Mabel—the less said about this, the better.
A cracking Women’s title bout did limit the damage somewhat, but unfortunately the belt had already been rendered somewhat meaningless at the time. And besides, the worst of the show was yet to come, as the Undertaker faced off against an imposter Undertaker in the main event of the evening.
Though the WWE and Women’s Championship bouts prevent this one from ranking any higher, too many drawbacks elsewhere on the card earn this one a spot on the list.
