12 months later, and the SummerSlam offering hadn’t really improved.

Much of the show revolved around the long-awaited return of Triple H, who’d been on the sidelines for over seven months with a second quadriceps injury. An underwhelming undercard featured Kane vs. Finlay and a rare successful Intercontinental Championship defence, while the World Heavyweight Championship feud saw Batista defeat the Great Khali via disqualification. I’m not sure I need to go into the gruesome details of that one...

There was also an Inter-Promotional Divas Battle Royal, the ultimate sign of not really knowing what to do, having a bit of a panic, and throwing everyone into the mix for the sake of it.

Ultimately, a telling statistic is that six of the eight matches lasted less than nine minutes, with the likes of CM Punk and John Morrison deserving far longer than that. Batista and Khali, though, not so much.
