10 Worst WWE SummerSlam PPVs Ever

2. 2010

On paper, this SummerSlam looks like a pretty awesome card. But in reality, it will always be remembered as a massive wasted opportunity and one of wrestling’s big “what if?” stories.

The main story heading into this one was that the Nexus were very much wreaking havoc across all of the WWE, and therefore it was up to John Cena and his band of merry men to attempt to put a stop to these renegades and their ruthless ways.

But with the stage set for the company to light a rocket under the faction, they instead allowed John Cena to win, thus making the group just another name on a very long list of those that Cena has overcome. Having Nexus go over could have turned them into absolutely huge stars, but instead the group would eventually disband, many of its members would leave the company, and a bitter taste was left in the many mouths of those who’d hoped for so much more.

As a match in itself, Team Nexus vs. Team WWE hadn’t actually been all that bad. We’d seen a glimpse of Bret Hart back in the ring, and a surprise return for Daniel Bryan, but all of the positives are easily forgotten against the backdrop of the questionable end result.

Regardless of what else happened on the show, and for that reason only, SummerSlam 2010 will have a tough time shaking its “wasted opportunity” tagline.
