10 Worst WWE Transformations In Recent Memory
2. All Of RETRIBUTION
A game of musical chairs featuring WWE’s most terrible gimmicks would not be complete without RETRIBUTION.
The speed with which a career can be destroyed by a shocking character change is truly frightening, and all of the RETRIBUTION stable members are painful representations of this. Running down why the group failed requires a list of its own, but the greatest frustration to come out of RETRIBUTION is the wasted potential for each member. Gimmick switches can often revitalize wrestlers, but never should they be so destructive as this.
Ali went from a hugely underrated underdog to an unconvincing villainous vigilante leader. Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez were dangerous no-nonsense fighters, Shane Thorne was a quality tag team specialist, and Dio Madden was a big man with a strong physique. As soon as they put on their new costumes (fit with masks that wouldn’t even get over in a neighbourhood trick or treat gang) and name tagged as Slapjack, Mace, Reckoning and Retaliation, any chance they had was squandered.
The saddest of all has been the transformation of Dominik Dijakovic into T-Bar. Double D was one of NXT’s fastest rising stars, who had an all-time great feud with Keith Lee and possessed every quality Vince McMahon typically sees in his ideal World Champion.
Some still wear the mask, while Martinez doesn't even work for WWE anymore. The group have disbanded, but the damage has been done.
