The opening match at WrestleMania XIV was a vehicle to push the rebirth of one of wrestling's greatest tag-teams. Nothing more, nothing less.

Updated with that ever-so-cool "2000" branding, the Legion Of Doom became LOD 2000 - now managed by Sunny - had an altogether more raunchy feel than before. As soon as they made their entrance, the Boston crowd knew who was winning this 15-team Battle Royal. Here's a hint: it wasn't The New Midnight Express.

Hawk and Animal ran through the field and lastly eliminated Jim Cornette's own 1980's update. The problem was with the match type though. Battle Royals, by their very nature, are hard for fans to get into. They're fine as a mid-card distraction, but as an opener this was humdrum at best.

Not only did teams like Bradshaw/Chainz and the weird combo of Steve Blackman/Flash Funk do little to sell the importance of the number one contendership gimmick, it also became hinted at another LOD vs. New Age Outlaws title match mere months after the last one.
