10 WrestleMania Main Events That Nobody Wanted To See
7. Randy Orton vs. Triple H - WrestleMania 25
For the 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania, WWE featured one of the greatest matches in history as Shawn Michaels attempted to end the undefeated streak of the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. It was unquestionably the Match of the Year and both guys showed why they are masters of their craft. Unfortunately, it was not the main event. No, that honor went to yet another meeting of Triple H and Randy Orton. Orton had won the 2009 Royal Rumble in a rather dull effort with his Legacy partners protecting him the entire match and giving new meaning to the term "foregone conclusion". For whatever reason, Orton then decided to start beating the crap out of the McMahon family, punting Vince and Shane in the head and delivering an RKO to Stephanie. Obviously, Steph's husband wasn't going to take this laying down so he broke into Orton's house and terrorized him like a villain from a 1980s horror movie. The stage was set for a Wrestlemania main event but seemed much more interested in the Undertaker-HBK match-up than the supposed main event. Turns out, the audience was right. Hunter and Orton had a completely forgettable match where they never seemed to click and, after all the ridiculous television angles, ended up just having a plain, old match. There were no big plot twists, no outside interference, no ridiculous spots...it was just a wrestling match that happened to be the last on the show. For a violent blood feud that featured Triple H playing the role of Jason Voorhees, the whole thing was entirely underwhelming. The world title match was completely overshadowed by the classic put on by the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels but history still has not been kind to this match. For two guys who have been working together for over a decade, you'd think they could have put together something special.
