Randy Savages victory at WrestleMania IV is one of the most heartwarming ends to WrestleMania ever, as he stands with his girl, his best friend and the WWF Championship to close the show. However, the route that took Randy Savage to that title is strange and involves Vince McMahon making multiple deals and promises that overlapped and conflicted with each other. It started when McMahon wanted to get the Intercontinental Championship from Ricky Steamboat, who wanted to spend more time with his family. The original plan was to put the title on Butch Reed, but Reed no-showed, so McMahon was stuck on what to do, until Hulk Hogan suggested The Honky Tonk Man, who made it known to McMahon that he didnt want to be a transitional champion. Then there came a time when McMahon wanted Randy Savage to take the Intercontinental Championship, but Honky Tonk Man was now one of the most hated heels in the company and doing good business. Instead, McMahon appeased Randy Savage by making him the WWF Champion at WrestleMania IV. That spot, however, was supposed to go to Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, so in order to make everything right with him, McMahon created The Million Dollar Championship, which DiBiase has said made him more money in the long run. From one no-show months prior to WrestleMania, three legendary careers were established and an iconic WrestleMania moment was born.
