I won't lie: The Miz has kind of grown on me in the past few months. I never had a problem with the Miz as a performer or a promo, it was just his position as WWE champion and headliner of WrestleMania that made absolutely no sense. He's actually pretty effective as a delusional, wannabe movie star who thinks of himself much higher than anyone else. In another era, he would be an extremely effective manager but we all know WWE doesn't use those anymore because they have the best writers in television working for them (sarcasm alert). The best part about Miz's character is that he isn't a main event guy. Not everyone can be The Rock, you need guys in the middle of the card who can play a cowardly heel and be effective in that manner. The Miz works because he makes himself out to be this big star who can beat anyone and then he gets destroyed. That reason is exactly why Ryback should be his bodyguard. Personally, I love a good bodyguard character because it makes the heel all the more effective. Instead of having to fight his own battles, Miz would have this big, jacked-up monster who he could hide behind and talk !*$% while hiding from the babyface. Of course, this would also get Ryback over as this monster because God knows his babyface act isn't setting the world on fire.
