10 Wrestler Deaths WWE Ignored

Some people in the industry felt that Lance Cade had main event potential. He never reached those lofty heights, but he was a fixture on WWE TV for a number of years, and not mentioning his death so shortly after he left the company felt pretty s****y of them to do. It seems that politics got in the way, and not of the backstage variety.

Linda McMahon was on one of her financially disastrous failed Senate bids when Cade died, and her strategy was to distance herself from the controversies of the company that she helped build. “I may have met him once,” was all she had to say when asked by a reporter if she knew him. It came across as a bit callous. She could have at least thrown in some condolences to the family with that response. Cade’s father later claimed that she met his son multiple times.

Cade was initially signed by the company in 2001. He spent a few years in developmental, then made his way onto the main roster and captured the Tag Titles on three separate occasions with Trevor Murdoch. He was involved in big angles with the newly reformed DX, and became a protege of Chris Jericho in his feud with Shawn Michaels. Things were looking good for his career.

Had he stayed clean he would have likely received a few more major opportunities. Unfortunately his addictions got the best of him, and he was let go after having a seizure on an airplane related to drug issues. He was briefly brought back the following year, then let go once again before making it back to TV. In 2010 he passed away at 29.

The most he got in remembrance from his former employer was a brief news piece on WWE.com.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
