Dean Ambrose may not have been the best athlete in The Shield, but he made his own statement in the group (and after they split up) as a never-say-die maniac who would fight as hard as he could, with his entire being, in every single match. Still, fans who have only seen Ambrose's work in WWE may be surprised at just how violent he was willing to get before signing with the company. As Jon Moxley, Ambrose became a star on the independent scene partly via competing in deathmatches, and one particular bout - a 2010 no ropes, barbed wire encounter with current NXT referee Drake Younger in Germany - let to Ambrose's scars. Basically, there's no safe way to work a barbed wire match with real barbed wire, and so Ambrose ended up getting badly tangled in it. After the match, attendants with wire-cutters had to extricate Ambrose from the barbed wire, and he needed to be stitched up immediately. To make matters worse, Ambrose didn't even win the match!
