Gail Kim was a household name in women’s wrestling all throughout the 2000s. She made her original WWE debut in 2003 and quickly went to establish herself in what was a highly competitive women’s division at the time. After a very good run, which included winning the Women’s Championship, she was released from the company because apparently they didn’t see her as a part of the new Divas division the company was looking to build.

Kim would then head to TNA where she became one of the standouts of the excellent Knockouts division. After a number of memorable feuds, including one with Awesome Kong, she left the promotion to return to WWE. At first, it seemed like her career could only take off from thereon. Unfortunately it didn’t quite turn out to be the case.

After a mixed run, which included feuds over the Divas Championship with the likes of Maryse, Kim had grown increasingly disgruntled with her position. It all came to a head on the 1 August 2011 episode of Raw when she was participating in a Battle Royale. Kim went against the script and eliminated herself during the match, emphatically sealing her exit from the company.

Subsequent to this she asked for her release, only for WWE to deny and freeze her her contract. In the end they kept her locked up until her contract expired. Kim would eventually return to Impact where she is currently involved in a producer role, but one can only imagine how difficult WWE had made life for Kim for her take a drastic step like the one she took, giving up wrestling altogether for a period of time just so she could get away

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
