10 Wrestlers Having A Disappointing 2022
7. Darby Allin
With a reckless willingness to give his body to the caus,e and the best suicide dive in the game, Darby Allin secured face-painted devotees from the earliest episodes of AEW Dynamite. His matches against Cody Rhodes, leading to a TNT Title victory, only enhanced his popularity, and the young man looked like a World Champion in waiting.
Since then, a slew of new arrivals have obstructed Allin’s path to the AEW main event scene. Despite being a stylistically diverse wrestling buffet, Tony Khan's promotion is still a talkers' company. Just look at the prodigiously talented young men labelled the four pillars and see which of them has become the biggest star. Allin remains a fearless worker but an unremarkable promo.
Meanwhile, Khan seems to view Darby as a guy over enough to absorb loss after loss. His partnership with Sting seemingly ensures a fun match on every PPV, but does he still feel like a future World Champion, or even an integral part of key storylines? Or does he seem like a guy who’s just there? Darby desperately needs a bit of momentum heading in the second half of 2022 and into 2023.
