10 Wrestlers Having A Disappointing 2022
6. Andrade El Idolo
Andrade thinking Darby Allin was a small boy and offering to buy him off Sting was p*ss funny. It should not, however, stand as a career highlight. So far, it remains one of the most memorable moments from Andrade’s AEW run. Between burning through managers, overlong midcard feuds and his involvement in the terrible Andrade/Hardy Family Office angle, El Idolo has yet to really set the Tony Khan-helmed promotion alight.
Despite his immense physical charisma, Andrade struggles to translate that to his promo game. That’s not to slate the guy - of course, he’s got an uphill battle cutting promos in his second language , but nonetheless, it’s undeniable he misses having a talker like Zelina Vega at his side. He has delivered some very strong in-ring performances, but for a worker of his talent in a promotion that delivers multiple bangers every week, that’s really the minimum expected of him.
The one-time NXT Champion's partnership with Rush may yet prove fruitful, but the early signs aren’t encouraging. The pair, alongside Dragon Lee, were given the chance to face Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in Kenny’s return match. This should have been a dream opportunity, but the bout was that rarest of beasts, an underwhelming Young Bucks multi-man match. Plus, the rushed post-match turn on Dragon Lee has drawn universal derision.
