10 Wrestlers That Have Held The WWE Title The Most Times

8. Kurt Angle (4)

When Kurt Angle finally made his debut within the WWE, the main event picture looked impossible to break into; the Attitude Era was swamped with huge masses of competition and talent. So it€™s great testament to Angle, that he was holding the WWE Championship within less than a year of making his debut with the company. You only have to look at his successful title defence in a six-man Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon 2000, to see how stiff the competition was during that time period; the match featured The Rock, Stone Cold, Triple H, The Undertaker and Rikishi; as well as Angle himself. After a successful title run, Angle was now considered one of the top guys in the company. Unfortunately the following year would see the Olympic gold medallist caught up in the middle of the very poorly executed Invasion storyline; Angle€™s character was shown to be uncertain on what side he should represent, spending time both on Team WWE and Team Alliance. However his indecisiveness made very little sense, Angle has no past affiliations with WCW and a sour history with ECW. After four title runs, Angle left the company due to being overworked and instead decided to sign for TNA. Sadly for Kurt, he would once again suffer from poorly executed storylines within his new company; such as being placed in the middle of a very awkward, personal segment with his ex-wife and her new husband. Based on this tweet he was evidentially unhappy with the direction of the feud: "The "Jarrett" segments on TNA Impact were appalling. It made me look like a dead beat Dad, which I am not (I can assure you). And it made Karen and Jeff look like the perfect American Family. MY kids were calling Jeff "Daddy Jeff"."
