10 Wrestlers Reveal The Worst Matches Of Their Career
7. Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy is now back with WWE on SmackDown, after his previous runs were met with drug abuse which only came to light after he left the company. That abuse spilled over to his time with TNA, which ended horribly when he faced Sting at the 2011 Victory Road pay-per-view.
Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk at SummerSlam 2009, this was not. It was easy to see Jeff was in no shape to be anywhere near a wrestling ring, never mind standing for an extended period of time. TNA knew this on his entrance, with the ref throwing up an X with his arms to signal something was off. The match is now infamous, with Hardy being so out of it Sting had to pin him in seconds to get it over with.
Jeff confirmed that the match was the first time he overdid it with drugs and regards it as the worst in his career. Hardy said:
"2011, with Sting, I was taking somas and I went out there fucked up, and, man, I couldn't even wrestle. For the first time in my life, I went too far. I couldn't wrestle my idol, basically, Sting, and he had to do the right thing and shut me down and pin me. That was my eye-opener, for the rest of my life, it was that night with Sting. And, man, I love him so much. He was so great after that and coming back in the best shape of my life in 2012, whenever that was when I won TNA's world title again or whatever. Basically, in a way, in a sick way, that was kind of an eye-opener for me to see that and to feel pitiful for myself."
In a Q&A in Wales, Sting spoke about wrestling an intoxicated Jeff Hardy that night at TNA Victory Road 2011. Sting added:
"Jeff was in a bad way, he was deteriorating as the day went on, by the time our match rolled around it became clear that he couldn't compete so I had to take him down quickly. He has since turned it all around, I love Jeff, I love his work, I hold nothing against him and wish him all the best."
Thankfully Jeff’s issues are in the past and you don’t have to think about them and can just concentrate on his work in the ring. Oh wait, I forgot about SmackDown at the moment...
