10 Wrestlers Reveal The Worst Matches Of Their Career
6. Cody Rhodes
Cody is beloved by fans for taking a chance on himself and climbing the ranks to become a main eventer. The matches he spent on the independents saw him win championships for Ring Of Honor, Global Force Wrestling, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and the NWA. He then went and helped form AEW with The Elite and Tony Khan, and doubles as an Executive Vice President and an in-ring performer, He has since had some emotional classics in the ring with the likes of his brother Dustin and Nick Aldis.
Before he was The American Nightmare though, he was on WWE's main roster with midcard success. Since leaving there, Rhodes has been a brilliant storyteller, giving insights and stories of his time in WWE – like the worst match he’s ever had.
On the same Being The Elite Q&A with The Bullet Club at Starrcast, Cody said a six-man tag match on SmackDown when he was ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes took the number 1 spot for his worst match ever. The original Sin Cara was a part of it which should give you a big clue as to why it ended up being so dreadful. It was Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase and Wade Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan, Ezekiel Jackson and Sin Cara. It ended up with Sin Cara kicking Barrett in the dick for no reason, in clear sight of the referee, then tagging a confused Bryan when he was supposed to tag Ezekiel. Bryan quickly pinned DiBiase for the win after a regular dropkick when Ted didn’t kick out in time, before WWE aired this mess in full even though they could have easily edited it given it was taped in advance.
Cody has also revealed a close contender for the worst match he’s been involved in, claiming a tag match he had with Zack Ryder in Charlotte, North Carolina was grim. Explaining why, Rhodes revealed that they had a sold-out show with a hot crowd but their match had to be stopped 10 seconds in because Ryder got a nose bleed after punching himself too hard on his entrance to the ring, with Cody afterwards throwing ‘an epic immature tantrum backstage’.
