10 Wrestlers That Only Seemed Cool When You Were A Kid

10. The Oddities

The Oddities were a stable of wrestlers who really could have only existed in the late '90s. A band of 'freaks' assembled by The Jackyl, The Oddities were made up of Kurgan (the tall guy), Giant Silva (the even taller guy), Golga (a guy in a leather gimp mask), Luna (the lady freak) and, on occasion, George 'The Animal' Steel (the nostalgic freak). Basically, no one was an actual 'freak' in the true carnival sense of the term. They were just odd...€And if that premise wasn't enough to get you on board, The Oddities were initially accompanied by The Insane Clown Posse, who also supplied the group with their entrance theme.

What you need to remember here is that this was a time when ICP had legitimate mainstream credibility and not just a cult following of loyal 'Juggalos.'€Truly a product of the time, Golga (formerly Earthquake) would even come out to the ring clutching a plush Eric Cartman figure, in a shameless attempt to cash in on the South Park craze. €Despite the fun gimmick and the ties to the pop cultural zeitgeist of the time, however, The Oddities never took off as a credible stable. They were never involved in a major angle and the quality of their matches was dismal. When the best worker in the group is Luna Vachon, you know there's a problem. Looking back at it now, The Oddities were a bottom card novelty act at best.

I am a writer and stand-up comedian living in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I didn't witness the Bret Hart screw job in person, but I did watch the Breaking Point PPV live and that was terrible it its own way. I am dangerously obsessed with professional wrestling and its surrounding culture. I am the current ring announcer for a local fed called the IWS. I got to introduce Tommy Dreamer a while back. My head almost exploded. I am a mark, and proud of it. I also co-host a podcast called Go Plug Yourself, which has featured quite a few local wrestlers and even Mick Foley. Speaking of the Mickster, I once got to be his warmup act when he was in town for comiccon. My head actually exploded that time. I've recovered... sort of.
