10 Wrestlers That Should Ask WWE For Their Release

8. Alex Riley

It€™s got to be hard, getting to the point where you nearly grab a spot for yourself€ and then find it slipping from between your fingers. That€™s where Kevin €˜Alex Riley€™ Kiley was four years or so ago, and nothing€™s changed much for him since then. He€™d been in developmental since 2007 when he was called up to take part in the second season of the game show version of NXT in 2010. Teaming with his pro, The Miz, Riley would act as his sycophantic stooge until summer 2011, when he rode a decent swell of support to a babyface turn and a feud against his former employer. A programme with Dolph Ziggler over the United States Championship followed, and then a nagging hip injury forced him off television for a few weeks. He€™s never returned to anywhere near the same spot since then. Sporadic appearances on television, the dreaded €˜losing streak€™ angle, more injuries and still more injuries meant that since early 2012 Alex Riley has spent far more time out of the ring than in. Determined to break back in and get noticed, he€™s tried to create a buzz on social media: debuting a ferocious heel character, angry about being overlooked. Roley claims to eat, sleep and breathe wrestling, and that he gave up a $200k executive position to pursue his dream. However, that year carrying Mike Mizanin€™s bags aside, he€™s been in WWE developmental now for coming up to nine years. Although he€™s got a good look, with size and intensity, and some quality mic skills when he€™s focused and confident, that big call to the main roster isn€™t happening: he€™s lucky to claw his way to an in-ring spot on NXT. If wrestling is really his passion, he€™s in the wrong place - at least for him. Riley€™s not getting enough ring time to improve to the point where his matches can get him over, and his tired €˜rage€™ gimmick isn€™t being helped by the addition of a bitter note. A mutual release and a move elsewhere - trading on the independents, or in New Japan - would probably be the making of him.
