10 Wrestlers That Were Better Off Without The Mask

2. Sami Zayn

El Generico was a great example of cream rising to the crop. A gimmick that should have lasted all of five minutes somehow managed to evolve into one of the most beloved in all of professional wrestling, on the back of organic crowd love and the innate wrestling ability of babyface supreme Rami Sebei.

It is difficult however to see how El Generico would work in WWE, so removing the mask and going forward as Sami Zayn was the best idea for all involved. In many ways, Zayn has been something of a revelation as an unmasked performer, losing none of the babyface fire that made Generico such a roaring success.

El Generico is dead. Long live the likeable and charismatic Sami Zayn.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
