10 Wrestlers That Were Better Off Without The Mask

3. Kane

I'm fairly sure a lot of people will disagree with this, but when Kane was unmasked in 2003 it was without doubt the right decision. The masked monster had run its course, and removing the hood gave Glenn Jacobs and the character a new legitimate lease of life. It also reinstated him as a terrifying monster, as his unmasking was completely gruesome.

The mask has returned to the Big Red Machine a number of times over the years, but it always feels a little like grasping for a past that is no longer relevant or wasn't even that great in the first place. Once the humanising of the Kane character began it was inevitable the mask would be removed at some point.

It came after Kane failed in his attempt to dethrone World Heavyweight Champion Triple H, but in many ways it guaranteed career longevity for Glenn Jacobs.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
