10 Wrestlers We're Most Thankful For In 2018

8. Tomohiro Ishii

Pac, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan
NJPW

Wrestling's athletic and psychological evolution is glorious, and the global scene has never been so rich in cutting-edge action, with the likes of Ricochet, Kenny Omega, and countless others pushing the game forward in new, innovative ways.

Sometimes, however, you just need to watch a hard bastard throwing his big thick head at other peoples' big thick heads, and nobody scratches that itch like Tomohiro Ishii.

The guy is, without a word of hyperbole, one of the absolute best in the world on his day. He takes one hell of a beating, his selling is G.O.A.T. level, and nobody draws you into the struggle quite like him. He doesn't just convey hurt: he makes the viewer feel it themselves, and that means he's incredibly easy to root for.

Ishii is 42 years old, and given how violent and hard-hitting his matches can be, he's not going to be doing this forever. Appreciate this little wrecking ball of a man while he's still able to deliver on this level. His big match record speaks for itself, and we all need a little gruff, hard-nosed machismo to break up all the flippy sh*t in our lives.
