10 Wrestlers Who Absolutely Love Annoying Fans
1. Chris Jericho
The master of wrestling reinvention has been loved and loathed in equal measure by fans throughout his 30 year career. Despite his popularity as a babyface, Jericho has proved himself a master of crowd provocation throughout his multiple heel runs.
Most glaring of all is his verbose, honest man schtick in 2008. Starting with a bang, he partially blinded Shawn Michaels and dismissed the fans as hypocrites and fools. Jericho removed all aspects of his work that had made him popular and replaced them with a similar (but meaner) character to AWA legend Nick Bockwinkel. Frequently turning to the aid of a thesaurus for his promos, Jericho came up with all kinds of obscure insults to hurl at his former fans.
Coupled with the personal nature of his program with Michaels, Jericho became the company’s most loathed heel in years. Fan hatred was so intense that Y2J found himself in a real life fight with several of them when trying to get to his car.
While 2008 was the peak of Jericho’s heel heat, he has continued to work fans on social media, in New Japan and now in AEW. Constantly hamming up any feature fans find annoying, Jericho continues to impress with his character work as the new decade rolls on.
