10 Wrestlers Who Appeared In Genre Fare

1. Roddy Piper - They Live!

Jesse Ventura Films
Universal Studios

A true cult classic, John Carpenter's They Live from 1988 finds Roddy Piper's Nada discovering a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the world for what it truly is: a reality where the social elite are actually aliens in disguise, using the media and government to control the populous.

Carpenter, of course, was already famous for The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, Escape from New York, and was just coming off another collaboration with Kurt Russell, Big Trouble in Little China.

This time he went with Piper, well known to the wrestling world already, and while not on the level of a Hulk Hogan or Andre the Giant, still a pretty sizable crossover star.

He certainly made his mark, which is why "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass...and I'm all out of bubblegum" was adapted by Duke Nukem years later in an homage to the character. Meanwhile, They Live remains a riot to watch today.
