10 Wrestlers Who Are The Most Overrated At Precisely One Thing
7. Bray Wyatt: Portraying A Sinister Presence
Bray Wyatt is meant to be scary.
That is the entire crux of his character. He is meant to be unhinged, disturbed, volatile. You are meant to believe that he is dangerously close to snapping at any given moment, and as such, everything he does is meant to be loaded with unease and suspense.
Is it?
His delivery is fine, but his act is hardly nightmare fuel. His cackling, demented laughter bit is almost a cliché of the troubled human being, in that this is the first thing a hack aspiring ac-tor would do in an audition for such a part. When he builds those moments that near an eruption, his dialogue is much too convoluted. His blank stare, when LA Knight slapped him for a second time the other week, was as close to unnerving as he's got upon returning - but he was always better at studying horror than embodying it.
Kota Ibushi, when he enters what is somewhat tragically known as his 'Murderboi' state, genuinely evokes an unsettled reaction. It helps that he is very erratic and that it actually feels like there's nothing behind those eyes. Eddie Kingston, at AEW Double Or Nothing earlier this year, did a more convincing job of looking capable of doing something truly abhorrent.
Wyatt is over, a draw, and a very impressive amount of people have bought what he's selling - but even Nailz was scarier.
