If you were to define a physical representation of ECW it would be Sabu. He was the high-flying hardcore pioneer who put his body on the line every time he stepped into that ring. This is a man who once had a ten-inch wound on his bicep during a match, and rather than stopping, he taped it up and continued. That doesn’t sound like a healthy decision.

His style also led to one or two botches along the way. Sabu was almost too ambitious for his own good, constantly coming up with new and exciting ways to throw himself through the air. Unfortunately, some of them were a bit too exciting, or he was working a little bit too fast because he was as likely to send himself crashing to the floor as he was to land on his opponent.

Sabu’s scarred body inspired thousands of backyard wrestlers to give this stuff a go for themselves, and a few of them even went on to become stars. He was the daredevil who was as likely to crash and burn as he was to succeed, and that never stopped being exciting. It can't have been good for his health, though.
