10 Wrestlers Who Became World Champions At The WRONG Time

1. Drew McIntyre

WrestleMania 36 will always be the weirdest one.

Drew McIntyre deserves immense credit for the way he handled himself though. The Scot showed maturity and talked about the impact of a global pandemic on the world at large rather than focusing solely on his personal ambitions. Winning the title in front of literally zero fans live had to suck by comparison to what he thought would be on offer after winning the Royal Rumble though.

There's no doubt about that. McIntyre had become the top babyface in the land overnight by Claymore Kicking one Brock Lesnar out of the Rumble and then winning the 30-man favourite. People were firmly on Team Drew heading into 'Mania, but then March 2020 hit and the place was turned upside down by COVID.

Nobody could’ve foreseen that, obviously, but McIntyre’s win still belongs on a list like this one. He didn't get to hear the glorious pop of a 60/70,000-strong crowd after pinning Lesnar. Instead, Drew returned to a practically empty Performance Center backstage, then bizarrely wrestled Big Show in a match taped for Raw.

The fact he didn't get to wrestle in front of an actual audience even once during his first WWE Title reign is a crying shame.
