10 Wrestlers Who Became World Champions At The WRONG Time

November 2000 was even worse!

Scott Steiner's menacing 'Big Poppa Pump' reinvention terrified people. The ex-tag teamer was so realistic as a bullying muscle man that he carried an edge few other heels in the promotion could match. Thus, sticking the WCW World Title on him at Mayhem late in the year was a solid creative plan.

That was about the only thing solid in World Championship Wrestling. Audiences had evaporated, ratings were shrinking, pay-per-view business was going down, and there were rumblings that someone was either gonna have to buy or kill the company heading into 2001. It wouldn't be long until Vince McMahon was in the conversation as a potential buyer.

Steiner's push featured some of the best heel work WCW TV had seen in years, but it was coming far too late in the day to rescue anything. Scott's chippy personality and scathing comments to come about everyone from Triple H to the McMahon family didn't exactly guarantee he'd be part of some crossover project either.
