10 Wrestlers Who Benefited From Looking Incredibly Stupid

4. Damien Sandow Resurrects His Career Mimicking Miz

Damien Mizdow is the quintessential example of a wrestler, as Steve Austin would put it, "making chicken salad out of chicken sh*t." Damien Sandow, lost and confused after being the only man to cash in Money in the Bank and lose clean, began a seemingly endless series of woeful vignettes dressing up as whatever costumed figure was most suitable to the town WWE was currently in. He dressed as Benjamin Franklin in Philly, an astronaut in Houston and Abraham Lincoln in Washington DC. He lost every time he wrestled and it looked like we would all be shortly wishing Sandow luck on all of his future endeavours. But then, in a fleeting segment during Miz's feud with Dolph Ziggler last year over the IC Title, Miz, embracing his new moviestar persona, decided that he'd rather not wrestle that night and introduced his stunt double: Damien Mizdow. Everyone's hearts got a little bit smaller that day. Somehow, it became the funniest thing in wrestling. We're not kidding. Mizdow began to impersonate Miz, not just in the ring, but at ringside, mirroring his moves. He would punch when Miz punched, fall on his arse when Miz would fall on his arse, and whenever Miz got thrown over the top rope, Mizdow would enter the ring, acknowledge Miz's opponent then hurl himself over the top rope too. Whereas so much of the WWE's comedy bits were forced and involved people being short, people having poop dumped on them from a great height, or any terrible thing that R-Truth says, watching a bonafide comedy routine growing organically in front of our eyes felt like watching magic unfurl. Then he impersonated Sheamus and we fell in love with him forever.
Once again, this was the pure guts and devoted professionalism of Mizdow (alongside effortless comic chops) to take a stupid, embarrassing idea, and making it into a thing of beauty. Miz vs Mizdow was the best built feud at Wrestlemania 31. Again, we are not kidding. Oh, and speaking of the Miz...
