10 Wrestlers Who Butted Heads With WWE Creative (And Won)
3. Steve Austin
Even Stone Cold Steve Austin, one of wrestling's most enduring heroes, didn't manage to retire without once or twice coming to blows with creative, the most famous example of which being his refusal to job to Brock Lesnar in 2002.
His reasons here weren't entirely selfish, in fairness. He wasn't so much disgusted by the idea of losing to a rookie as he was worried that giving away such a momentous result after just a couple of weeks of build would go down as a wasted opportunity.
In the end, Austin dug his heels so far into the ground that WWE heads had to scrap their plans altogether. He then left the company temporarily - but returned a short while later still able to command a headline spot at WrestleMania XIX.
In fact, they spent the next decade begging him to make cameo appearances on any pay-per-view held within a three-hundred mile radius of his Texas home. So much for putting the dissenting voices in their place.
