10 Wrestlers Who Butted Heads With WWE Creative (And Won)
2. Shawn Michaels (Again)
Another example of Shawn Michaels warring with his creative masters came during 1997, when the Heartbreak Kid was feuding with The British Bulldog over the European Championship.
According to legend, the original plan here was for Michaels to become a mega-heel after defeating his opponent at the UK-hosted One Night Only in September, with Bulldog then winning the belt back at another event across the pond a couple of months later.
But HBK had other ideas, apparently lobbying for the feud's outcome to be changed so that Bulldog wouldn't be given his chance at a rematch (and, fittingly, that he could effectively hand the belt, gift-wrapped, to best bud Triple H instead in December).
Vince McMahon's franchise player got such a taste for beating the hometown hero that he did it again just a couple of months later in Montreal, this time getting the better of Bret Hart for the WWF Title at Survivor Series. But that was only a minor match of minimal consequence.
