10 Wrestlers Who Could Have Been Main Eventers With Better Gimmicks
8. Drew McIntyre
Lots of WWE stars have been saddled with bad gimmicks, but Drew McIntyre is unique - he actually had a great gimmick before he had the talent to pull it off, and by the time he had improved, he was stuck in a comedy role with no future.
McIntyre debuted on Smackdown in 2009 as a management favorite - Vince McMahon called him a "future World Champion" on TV. That meant the Scottish star found himself with a winning streak and the Intercontinental Title before long, but his push didn't take. Fans didn't buy into the unpolished midcarder as a main event talent, and he soon lost his title and tumbled down the card.
After a long run competing primarily on Superstars, McIntyre got a lot better. He was given another shot at a character, but this time, unfortunately, he was part of Heath Slater's Three Man Band. He, Slater, and Jinder Mahal were usually fodder for serious stars, and McIntyre had little opportunity to show off the skills he had developed.
In 2014, he was released from the company, and he's since become one of the top talents on the independent scene.
