10 Wrestlers Who Could Have Been Main Eventers With Better Gimmicks
7. R-Truth
R-Truth had previously competed in WWE in 2000 and 2001, but when he returned to the company in 2008, he had already gained main-event level experience - while competing for TNA, he became a two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Rather than build on his work, though, Truth was halfheartedly pushed in a way that did him no favors. His entire portrayal smacked of prejudice, and his brief, disgustingly racist "Pretty Ricky" character was appalling. Even after it was dropped, he continued to be used in offensive ways.
Finally, in 2011, he was allowed a bit of character growth. He turned on partner John Morrison after losing to Morrison in a match to determine a number one contender, then started a heel run. While it wasn't without its own slaps in the face (at one point, Truth had to dress as a Confederate solider in an angle with John Cena), it felt like the star was finally allowed to be creative.
Unfortunately, R-Truth quickly fell down the card after his loss to Cena. He briefly teamed with The Miz in a promising tandem, but after they split up, he turned face and was given a "crazy" gimmick. Since then, he's primarily been used to put over other stars.
