6. Darren Young

Imagine being told to stop using your brand-new finishing move, one that you acquired as part of your storyline push, because someone new was going to use it, and they were already a higher priority than you. Sounds pretty rubbish, right? Well, that’s exactly what happen to Fred Rosser when he was still working for WWE. So much for making Darren Young great again!

After aligning himself with former 2-time WWF Champion Bob Backlund, Young was gifted the notorious submission hold the Crossface Chickenwing by his mentor. The very same submission that Backlund had used to defeat Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart at Survivor Series in 1994. Sure, the move could be considered too old-school for modern era WWE, but it was extremely effective when used correctly and hadn’t really been seen on television since Backlund last applied it to Heath Slater on an episode of RAW back in 2012.

But when Asuka made the jump to the roster in October 2017, Young was told in no uncertain terms that he had to cease using the move because it was one of the undefeated NXT alum’s signature holds. In the grand scheme of things, Asuka obviously was the bigger deal, but it can’t have done much for Young’s confidence in his position on the roster, and his eventual release that same year probably didn’t come as too much of a surprise.
