10 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Pull Off Interesting Gimmicks
8. Mordecai
Supernatural or scary gimmicks in wrestling can be polarizing, but - not to bring him up at every opportunity - The Undertaker proved that there's definitely a market for them when they're done well. Unfortunately, many of his would-be successors haven't had the same success over the years.
Such was the case with Mordecai, a white-clad religious zealot who - while not explicitly magical - was certainly implied to be toying with some very dark forces. The fearsome character debuted in April of 2004 and claimed to be on a quest to rid SmackDown of sin. His thinly-veiled references to Undertaker suggested a feud was planned for the future.
That program never materialized because Mordecai only lasted for a couple of months. After picking up a few squash victories, he was sent back to OVW for further training - and given how many wrestlers Undertaker faced over the years who could have benefited from similar discretion, that says a lot. His lack of skill - combined with a real-life bar fight that meant the company wanted him off TV - meant that Mordecai was dead and buried before ever meeting "The Phenom."
