10 Wrestlers Who Couldn't Pull Off Interesting Gimmicks

7. Gunner Scott

During his life, Chris Benoit was one of the most respected and beloved superstars in wrestling. His reputation as the most skilled and tenacious worker in the industry made him popular, and while he was never one of the best promo men in WWE, he had an in-ring charisma that captivated fans.

Any superstar who was going to be associated with Benoit would need to live up to some pretty high standards, and unfortunately, Gunner Scott simply couldn't do it. Formerly Brent Albright in OVW, Scott was called up in 2006 and given the gimmick of Benoit's protégé. The two teamed together on SmackDown and 'The Rabid Wolverine' endorsed the newcomer, but it didn't make a difference. Benoit cast a long shadow, and despite his talent, Scott wasn't up to the challenge of being compared to the former World Heavyweight Champion.

Scott only lasted a few months before getting sent back down to OVW, and a few months after that, he was fired. It would take a special kind of wrestler to succeed as Benoit's apprentice - maybe a 2006 Bryan Danielson - and Gunner Scott wasn't up to the task.
