10 Wrestlers Who DESTROYED Their Career In A Single Moment
1. Ivelisse
By 2020, Ivelisse had already established her reputation.
Branded with the euphemistic "difficult to work with" tag early into her career, AEW founder Tony Khan nonetheless took the risk. His women's division, already thin, was decimated by the pandemic. The early idea to import experienced and exciting joshi talent was rendered impossible as a result of travel issues, leaving a green crop of performers who had struggled to transition to national television since they had came up in a women's independent scene that barely functioned as a feeder system. Tony Khan might be guilty of perpetuating the bleak cycle of women's wrestling in the US, but it has always existed.
This gave Ivelisse a way in.
She could go. Without being a blow-away awesome talent, she was more than capable of working a snug and convincing style and had the experience to work TV-length matches without getting lost entirely, which was becoming an issue on AEW TV.
She was paired with Thunder Rosa on the September 10 Dynamite, which otherwise was an all-timer. To an infamous degree, it did not go well. After more than a few stiff shots thrown in either direction, Ivelisse sat in a Thunder Rosa submission hold like a toddler who had been told she had to give her dummy to Santa this year.
While it should be noted that the two women worked together with no incident in a tag match a couple of weeks later, in various media interviews after being quietly dropped, Ivelisse alleged systemic mistreatment from the coaching staff.
Blaming everybody but herself, once more, it's exceedingly unlikely that she'll work in the mainstream ever again.
