10 Wrestlers Who Didn't Take Their Gimmicks Seriously Enough

1. Yokozuna

Yokozuna, in case you didn't figure it out from his ring attire and the fact that he was named after a sumo wrestling rank, was supposed to be Japanese.

But the man himself was actually born in the United States to the famous Anoa'i wrestling family, whose roots are in Samoa. In order to pull the gimmick off convincingly therefore, Yoko needed to keep his real identity on the down-low.

Things like shouting "Samoa" down the barrel of the camera, for example? That should probably be avoided. It's bound to raise suspicions, unless you think fans are going to believe that this Japanese man just likes to randomly call out the names of other countries for the hell of it.

The defence here would be that Yoko is proud of his family's considerable contribution to the business and simply wanted to publicly acknowledge it. There's really nothing wrong with it when you put it like that, although Vince McMahon probably saw it differently when he returned to the back a few minutes later.
