10 Wrestlers Who Didn't Take Their Gimmicks Seriously Enough
9. The Governor
Daffney had a pretty rough time of things in TNA, the height of which being the two or three months between 2008 and 2009 that she was asked to portray "The Governor", which was essentially a parody of Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
It became apparent pretty early on that she wasn't very good at the impersonation, which seems fair enough on paper. Capturing the voice and mannerisms of a public figure is difficult; a skill that only an elite group of comedians can pull off.
But her attempts also seemed remarkably phoned in to boot. She would throw in tired catchphrases like "you betcha!" seven or eight times each skit, but there was little else in it that was particularly funny or clever.
Can you blame her, though? This was a dead-end gimmick if ever there was one, destined to last only as long as the US election cycle before being dropped and forever forgotten about. And that's exactly what happened.
