10 Wrestlers Who Didn't Take Their Gimmicks Seriously Enough
8. Johnny Jeter
Johnny Jeter made the fatal mistake of complaining about his gimmick - a male cheerleader - backstage, apparently within earshot of an "old school" veteran who wasn't best impressed ("old school" here is basically a byword for mean and unpleasant).
The Spirit Squad member, so the tale goes, was then dragged into Wrestler's Court and ultimately passed down the punishment of having to buy a load of beer for JBL, who just so happened to be a member of the jury.
You can understand both sides here, to be honest. There are a ton of independent wrestlers who would kill for the opportunity to play a full-time character on Monday Night Raw, and it does seem a tad ungrateful to start moaning that it's not exactly what you had in mind.
On the other hand, his reservations were more or less proved correct within just a couple of months. Jeter and the rest the team were - quite literally - sent back to OVW after a short and fruitless stint getting thrown around the ring by D-Generation X.
