10 Wrestlers Who Didn’t Deserve To Be On WWE PPV Posters

9. Triple H – Vengeance (2001)

The poster for Vengeance 2001 had a reflective Triple H resting his chin on his trademark sledgehammer. One look at the poster at the time and you would have assumed HHH was going to make his long awaited comeback at the last PPV of the year after suffering a career-threatening tear in his left quadriceps muscle the prior May on an episode of Raw Is War in a thrilling match when he and Austin defended their WWF Tag Team Championship against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit. But plans certainly changed from the creation of this poster to the event itself.

Triple H was on the shelf for 8 months undergoing surgery and a painful rehabilitation. On his Something to Wrestle podcast Bruce Prichard confirmed Hunter’s quad injury put him out of action longer than WWE creative thought it would. Initially there was an understanding and early belief he’d back for Vengeance, likely in a match against Chris Jericho.

Fans that night had to settle for an inspirational video package for Triple H soundtracked by U2’s ‘Beautiful Day’ hyping his comeback (a video HHH disliked as he wanted to come back as a heel). Instead Vengeance was promoted/headlined with the unification of the WWF Championship and World Championship, which would have made for a far better themed poster.
