A menacing-looking Jinder Mahal was photographed alongside Randy Orton to promote the fifth and final Battleground PPV. The two headlined the show with a Punjabi Prison match for the WWE Championship. The issue here with the poster being, like Jinder’s run with the WWE title, it wasn’t justified or deserved.

In 2016 Jinder re-signed with WWE who were in desperate need to fill the roster with more reliable talent for the reintroduction of the brand extension. When he returned he was far leaner and muscular than ever before, gaining the attention of Vince McMahon and the higher ups in WWE. After trading wins with the likes of Darren Young on secondary shows like Main Event and Superstars, Jinder in 2017 gained a shocking amount of momentum from out of nowhere.

Starting with being the last man eliminated in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal to peaking at Backlash where he shocked the world by becoming the WWE Champion by beating Randy Orton in the main event, with actually promoted laughter from some audience members in the crowd that night.

WWE pushed Jinder to the moon after being portrayed as a jobber for years to try and cash-in on the lucrative Indian market. But fans never even came close to believing Mahal was a main event calibre performer deserving to be in the ring with Randy Orton, never mind a PPV poster.
