10 Wrestlers Who Died In Mysterious Circumstances
2. Dino Bravo
After a 22-year long career, 'Canadian Strongman' Dino Bravo retired in 1992 at the ripe old age of 44.
Bravo was less than one year into his retirement when it was reported that he had been found dead with ten bullets in his torso and seven in his head. The victim of an apparent gangland slaying, his killers remain unknown to this day.
The nephew by marriage of a Montreal crime boss, Bravo was believed to have had involvement in organised crime dating back to his wrestling career, and had apparently taken to moonlighting as a cigarette smuggler in his retirement.
According to his friend Rick Martel, Bravo had struggled to adjust to life after wrestling and after years of turning down invitations to involve himself in the illicit family affairs, had finally conceded.
Using his fame as a wrestler, Martel claimed Bravo had curried favour with Native tribes who controlled access to the river and soon found himself in a profitable position enough that he was offered the chance to smuggle cocaine across the border, which fatefully he accepted.
After the police intercepted a $400,000 cocaine shipment in a warehouse, Bravo's days were numbered. According to Bret Hart he confided to close friends that he knew he was going to be murdered. His death remains unsolved.
