10 Wrestlers Who Ditched Their Terrible Ring Names

4. American Starship Coyote - Scott Hall

Having just recounted Kevin Nash’s story, the trajectory of Scott Hall’s career follows a rather familiar path.

Hall also had his first taste of success as one of the major players in the WWF of the mid-1990s, before going on to WCW to reinvent himself under his real name. And just as the trajectory of their later careers were similar, so too were their earlier days in the business - meaning that Hall also has a forgettable name hiding in the proverbial closet.

Debuting in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in 1984, Hall teamed with Dan Spivey to form the tag team American Starship, and, just to ensure the point was really driven home, both men had the American Starship shtick incorporated into their individual names.

Hall became known as American Starship Coyote, while Spivey was American Starship Eagle. Apart from sounding like really bad nicknames of undercover agents, it also made little sense that Hall - an absolute specimen in his early days at 6’7” and close to 300lbs of solid muscle - was being compared to a coyote, of all things.

Then again, it’s not like American Starship Bear or American Starship Gorilla would have improved matters, either.
