10 Wrestlers Who Ditched Their Terrible Ring Names
5. Oz - Kevin Nash
Kevin Nash’s first taste of success came whilst wrestling as Diesel in the WWF. As far as one-word gimmicks go, Diesel wasn’t such a bad name, especially when you consider that it was used during that wacky period that was the mid-90s.
But prior to winning the WWF Championship as Diesel, Nash had already endured his fair share of woeful wrestling names.
Upon debuting in WCW in September 1990, Nash was initially referred to as Master Blaster Steel, a name that now seems somewhat ridiculous but at the time at least made a bit of sense, given that he was a part of the Master Blasters tag team. However, there was no excusing the abomination that followed.
After the Master Blasters split, Nash branched out on his own and was promptly put in a lime green cape, what he describes as a "dunce cap" and a plastic mask of an old man’s face. The old man was supposed to be Oz, as in the same of Wonderful Wizard fame, and if that sounds like a bad idea on paper, it was somehow even worse in reality.
