Despite the problems caused by the ongoing concussion-centric lawsuit, the day will come when the talent of Barry Darsow is properly acknowledged by those in positions of pro wrestling power.

Known to most of the wrestling world as Smash, Darsow was arguably the better half of the Demolition team that bring happy memories flooding back to any wrestling fan born in the 1980s. Demolition famously started off the 1989 Royal Rumble against each other, meaning the live audience were treated to hearing the greatest entrance music ever twice in a row.

Smash competed in two Rumbles (1989 and 1990) before breaking out in singles competition, also taking part in the '92 and '93 Rumbles. Smash was long gone by this time of course, and had been replaced by a gimmick that really shouldn't have worked - but by gum, it did! - Repo Man.

Repo Man was a sneaky heel who liked repossessing items and wore a Zorro-type mask, with mannerisms not unlike The Riddler. It was ridiculous, but Darsow's portrayal of the character was so wonderfully over the top that it worked. Repo didn't have a whole lot of success in his Rumbles however, surviving six minutes in '92 and just three and a half in '93.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
