10 Wrestlers Who Entered The Royal Rumble With Multiple Gimmicks

8. Earthquake/Golga

What was I saying about contrasting gimmicks?

Another Royal Rumble runner-up, Earthquake was the final man thrown over the top rope in 1991, succumbing to the overpowering strength of Hulkamania. It is easy to forget just how well positioned 'Quake was in the early 90s, and when this writer first began watching wrestling he happened to be the number one heel. Well, the number one heel in storylines, at least.

Earthquake's first Rumble appearance came in 1990, when he was still billed as 'Canadian Earthquake'. The big man eliminated two people in two minutes, before falling to the classic Rumble spot in which multiple faces and heels work together to eliminate the big man - the big threat to win. One year later, 'Quake was runner up. He would also take part in the 1993 Royal Rumble.

John Tenta's final Rumble appearance would come in 1999, and it lasted just 15 seconds. Earthquake was by that point; in his place was the masked Golga, a member of the frankly ridiculous Oddities stable. Golga entered the '99 Rumble third, and was the first man thrown over the top rope at the hands of Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Oddities were soon released from the company, and Tenta sadly passed away in 2006.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
