10 Wrestlers Who Gained Nothing By Being WWE World Champion

9. Vince McMahon

Which Belt: WWF Title.

Why They Gained Nothing: Already mega-over as a heel authority figure after rising to prominence post-Montreal Screwjob and due to a feud with Steve Austin, Vince never needed a belt. He wasn't a full-time wrestler either, but was effective as an occasional heel opponent for top faces like Austin and (later) others.

In 1999, McMahon somehow became WWF World Champ by beating Triple H on an episode of SmackDown in September. That happened on the 14 Sept episode. One week later, Vinnie Mac relinquished the belt and the company moved on by...giving Triple H the strap again at Unforgiven six days after that.

The whole exercise was pointless. It didn't help McMahon's character, one that was dabbling with babyface flourishes, and it didn't make the belt more prestigious either. A Vince title run with some actual matches could've been fun, but this was insignificant.
