10 Wrestlers Who Got Over By Losing
2. Sammy Guevara
Poised for a breakout babyface run in 2021, Sammy Guevara has proven his value in a heel role without ever really winning anything, though Le Sex Gods weren't unfamiliar with the pay window as a tag team.
A relative unknown ahead of AEW's launch, Guevara mildly impressed on that early pay-per-view circuit, but one couldn't label him a standout. That Cody Vs. Sammy Guevara match graphic marking the debut of Dynamite was somewhat puzzling, and while it made sense, AEW's insistence that Sammy would replace Cody as Chris Jericho's Full Gear opponent in the event of his victory failed to convince. It was so incredibly unlikely as to be almost patronising.
In 2021, Sammy Guevara Vs. Chris Jericho is a major upper midcard PPV-level attraction because Guevara has ruled as a heel on an episodic TV wrestling show.
The smarmy face; the ability to pull you in, even to picture-in-picture; the underrated unhinged body language: Guevara got over by losing simply because you wanted to see him lose. He was the little f*cker with the punchable face, and he played that role incredibly well.
Hangman's Buckshot; Moxley's Paradigm Shift; Luchasaurus' Tombstone Facebuster: it just never got tiring, watching Guevara land at such a grotesque angle.
