10 Wrestlers Who Got Pissed Off At Critics
6. Triple H
In a recently resurfaced and hilariously prescient excerpt from a July 2014 edition of WWE RAW, Triple H, in full-on gotten-to mode, responded "in character" to the events of Battleground 2014, at which John Cena captured his umpteenth WWE Championship. This was an uninspired and unpopular development that WWE fans emphatically rejected online.
"I'm gonna tweet my displeasure," he said, adopting the tone of an internet fan. "I might even send an Instagram," he said, because it's really funny when DX feign to not understand the younger demo. It's also really funny when they actually don't.
"Me and my friend Mark, we're gonna stop watching!"
Get it??!! Mark?
Capital burn, Mr. Levesque!
Funny how utter, open, incredibly patronising disdain towards the audience somehow turned the audience off!
Because Mark did stop watching. And so did Aaliyah, Aaron, Aba...
That episode averaged 4.43 million viewers; this year, RAW, after years of failing to effectively promote new stars, sunk to record low of 1.5.
What's even funnier than the immediate catharsis is the idea that Triple H, privy to everything, thought WWE had the masterplan. He thought this promo would ultimately prove him right. He was privy to the plan, the twist those dumb marks just couldn't see coming, and it was "Brock Lesnar annihilates John Cena, to be avenged by Roman Reigns, but we f*ck that up because nobody wants to hear badass babyfaces recite fairytales".
Great, and popular, plan!
WWE has been slowly shrinking and transforming into a corncob ever since.
